I have always loved Oberhaslis. I wanted to start dairy goats after working with them at the fairs for the past 2-3 years. I like how they were so much more hands-on than the pygmies since you have to clip and milk them. I did some research and found Suzanne Strong who lived about an hour away from me. Perfect! I had talked to her for a few months and I finally went down to look at some bred does in December 2005. I decided I definitely wanted Stella, since she was the ark bay color and she lead and set-up very nicely - just what I needed for 4-H. She had mentioned that Stella and Savanna had been together since they were born so I felt bad for leaving her. I begged my mom to loan me the money to bring her home too and I did! I paid my mom back and now they are all mine. I am having a blast with the dairy goats. In 2007, I hope to try baking with the milk and making cheese, soap, or something like that. We'll see how that goes.

Any dairy goat with the surname "Hillside Gems" before it's callname was born here!

Stella is such a sweetheart. She is a nice doe that has won a lot of 4-H awards. She is half Alpine and half Oberhasli, so she is not able to show under the Oberhasli division for sanctioned shows, but that doesn't stop her from winning at 4-H fairs. Stella is a nice sized doe with a level topline and nice rump. She has a nice deep and extremely wide chest and shouders with pretty good dairy character. I would like to see better udder attachments but she has good capacity to her udder and she is very easy to milk which is a big plus! I would like to see tigher elbows, and a wider escutcheon along with a wider rear udder. She has excellent black oberhasli markings and the beautiful deep red bay color. Stella is my 4-H showmanship doe so hopefully, if she got bred last time, you will see her and I competing at the Oregon State Fair 4-H division.

Ober-D' Rainbow RCO Savanna :: Experimental Doe :: # E001272736
DOB: February 25, 2003
Sire: Ober-D' Rainbow DMG Rico Bueno
Dam: Hill N Holler A. Vanna

Show Winnings:
2006 Columbia Co. Fair - Grand Champion, Rec. Grade

Kidding History:
2004 - twins
2005 - twins
5/12/06 - twin bucks
Bred to "Troubeaudour" and due June 30th, 2007

Savanna is definitely the pill around here. She is too "smart" and has figured out how to open gates, get to trees outside the fence, etc. She is very friendly and pushy at the same time so at times, she is hard to stand! But she is a very nice doe. She had good dairy character with a very nice udder. Nice level and wide rump with good rear angulation as well. She makes beautiful babies and I am hoping see settled this year so I at least have some yearlings to show next year.
